Softball - Metamora 5, Pekin 1
In the continuation of a suspended game from last week, the Redbirds scored three runs in the 5th inning to pull away from the Dragons. Led by Bailee Bender's three hits and Kennedy Nee's two runs batted in, Metamora improved to 14-3 on the season. Nora Johnson threw a no-hitter with ten strikeouts to improve to 12-0 on the mound.

Baseball - Metamora 10, Canton 2
The Redbirds exploded for ten runs and had twenty-three baserunners in a road win at Canton. Drew Lueddecke and Tyler Mason provided two hits apiece, and Lueddecke drove in three runs. AJ Stone had two runs batted in, and Clayton Cawley threw a two-hitter with ten strikeouts in recording a complete game victory.

Saturday, April 13

Softball - Metamora 7, Lincoln 0
In game one of a doubleheader, Addi Pacha and Nora Johnson smacked home runs and the Redbirds cruised to a victory. Nora pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out eleven Railers and walking none.

Softball - Metamora 5, Lincoln 0
In game two of the doubleheader, Pacha threw five innings in the circle, allowing only one hit. She also helped her own cause at the plate, hitting her second home run of the day. Metamora is now 13-3 on the season.

B Tennis - Metamora 4, Streator 0
Dane Hutchison and Tommy Sopko won singles matches, and the doubles teams of Hudson Shaw / Adam Culp and Weston Lange / Jack Hessing swept the doubles for the Redbirds.

B Tennis - Metamora 3, Sterling 1
Adam Culp picked up a singles win, while Hudson Shaw / Tommy Sopko and Weston Lange / Jack Hessing added doubles victories for Metamora.

B Tennis - Metamora 4, Washington 0
Metamora handed Washington only its second defeat in ten dual matches with a terrific performance to end the day. Hudson Shaw and Dane Hutchison recorded singles wins. Adam Culp / Tommy Sopko and Weston Lange / Jack Hessing added doubles victories. For the week, MTHS won 29 of 30 individual matches, capturing all five team wins.

G Soccer - Metamora 2, Streator 0
Mia Hutchison assisted on both Redbird goals in the home victory over Streator. Emmie Graf and Cali Elbert scored Metamora's goals, with Elbert's being a header off of Hutchison's corner kick.

B Track - 7th of 15 - Ottawa A-B-C Meet
In a meet with three flights and fifteen teams, Metamora placed 6th in the A flight, 6th in the B flight, and 9th in the C flight for an overall 7th place team finish. See team scores here. Zach Born won the title in the 3200, and Nick Walker was the champion in the high jump. Nick Walker (2nd - A) and Ryley Claudin (2nd - B) were runners-up in the 400, while Paul Reason (2nd - C) tied for 1st in the high jump. See all individual results here.

Baseball - Washington 16, Metamora 0
Washington's bats were cooking at Al Mulberry Field, as the Panthers racked up 16 runs in the 5-inning game. Drew Melody had two of Metamora's four hits on the afternoon.

G Track - 17th of 20 - Bloomington Lady Raider Invitational
Metamora competed in the highly competitive Lady Raider Invite, finishing 17th as a team. See complete team standings here. G Soccer - Metamora 1, Rock Island Alleman 1
Metamora made a trip to Rock Island on a rainy evening and came home with a 1-1 tie. The Redbirds scored in the thirteenth minute on a corner kick from Emmie Graf that was redirected by Tabby VandeSchraaf. Alleman tied the game with fifteen minutes remaining on a free kick.

Wednesday, April 10

B Tennis - Metamora 9, Peoria Christian 0
The Redbirds won 9-0 for the second consecutive day, defeating the Chargers of PCS at Laura Bradley Park. Hudson Shaw, Dane Hutchison, Adam Culp, Tommy Sopko, Weston Lange, and Jack Hessing each posted singles and doubles wins.

Baseball - Metamora 2, Morton 1 (9 inn)
In a battle of exceptional pitching, Morton and Metamora played seven innings of scoreless baseball. Each team plated a single run in the 8th, with Tyler Mason's two-out hit tying the game for MTHS. In the bottom of the 9th, Drew Lueddecke drove home Ethan Krei with the game-winning run. Gavin O'Laughlin threw a gem on the mound for 6 1/3 innings, and Krei finished the game to pick up the win.

Tuesday, April 9

G Track - Metamora 81, Canton 51
In a dual meet in Canton, Redbird runners won eight separate events. Winners included: 100 (Caho), 200 (Caho), 400 (Roth), 1600 (Marsh), triple jump (Schwarz), and the 4 X 100, 4 X 200, and 4 X 400 relay teams (Ruder, Houlihan, Knaub, Cansino, Whitfield, Heil, Stamm, Olson, Sparry, Mullins, Marsh all on at least one relay).

B Track - Metamora 76, Canton 50
The boys also picked up eight event titles in the meet at Canton. Winners included: 100 (Keil), 200 (Walker), 400 (Truelove), 800 (Montgomery), 1600 (Walters), 110 HH (Johnsen), and the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 relay teams (Walker, Schmitz, Keil, Duhon, Cote, Rhoades, and Schalk all on at least one relay).

B Tennis - Metamora 9, Pekin 0
The Redbirds had their first home event of the season, sweeping Pekin to improve to 20-0 in school history against the Dragons. Hudson Shaw, Dane Hutchison, Adam Culp, Tommy Sopko, Weston Lange, and Jack Hessing each won singles and doubles matches for Metamora.

G Soccer - Metamora 8, Canton 0
Metamora picked up its first Mid-Illini win of the year with an 8-0 triumph at Canton. Emmie Graf led the way for the offense, scoring three goals for the Redbirds.

Baseball - Mt. Zion 4, Metamora 2
Mt. Zion scored a run in the 6th and two more in the 7th to nip the Redbirds at Al Mulberry Field. Cooper Girdler only yielded three hits in 6 1/3 innings on the mound, but Mt. Zion drew eight walks in the contest. Drew Lueddecke had two of Metamora's four hits.

Softball - Metamora 6, Canton 1
The Redbirds pounded fifteen hits in a road triumph at Canton, pulling away with a three-run 7th inning. Ellie Schaffer had three hits for MTHS, while Karagan Hartnett knocked in two runs. Nora Johnson improved to 10-0 on the mound. Fun fact: there were zero walks for either team in this game.

Monday, April 8

Baseball - Morton 10, Metamora 3
Morton scored eight runs in the first two innings and went on to defeat the Redbirds, 10-3. Jack Graf had two runs batted in for MTHS, but Metamora only managed three hits against a trio of Potter hurlers.

Softball - Metamora 2, Washington 1 (8 inn)
Metamora only managed four hits in eight innings, but Ellie Schaffer's single to left in the bottom of the 8th gave the Redbirds a 2-1 victory. Ellie drove in both runs and also made a diving catch to thwart a Panther scoring opportunity. Nora Johnson improved to 9-0, scattering nine hits and striking out five.

B Tennis - 1 Urbana University (32), 2 St. Charles North (30), 3 Normal Community (25), 4 Champaign Central (24), 5 Metamora (23), 6 Bloomington (18), 7 Champaign Centennial (16), 8 Tinley Park Andrew, Normal U-High (11), 10 Geneva (10), 11 Lockport (7), 12 Normal West (4), 13 Central Catholic (3), 14 Bradley-Bourbonnais 1
Metamora played in a 14-team invite at five sites throughout Bloomington-Normal. All five Redbird entries won at least twice, with Dane Hutchison having the highest finish, 3rd place at #2 singles.

Softball - Huntley 9, Metamora 6
Four Redbirds had two hits each, but the Huntley offense pounded thirteen hits and defeated MTHS, 9-6. Addi Pacha absorbed the loss on the mound, as Huntley made up for yesterday's Redbird win and split the two-day doubleheader.

Softball - Metamora 11, Loyola Academy 7
In the second game Saturday, the Redbirds had only five hits but took advantage of eleven walks and defeated the Class 4A Ramblers, 11-7. Ellie Schaffer had two of Metamora's hits and two runs batted in, while Nora Johnson stayed undefeated in the pitching circle.

B Track and G Track - Metamora C0-Ed Meet
The boys and girls combined for a large, co-ed meet Saturday. Metamora's boys team piled up 64 points, good for third of the thirteen boys teams. The girls scored 47 points, which was fifth of eleven schools. Kendrick Schaffrin won the triple jump crown, and many Redbirds finished near the top of their events. Friday, April 5

Baseball - Washington 2, Metamora 1
Avery Grebner had two of Metamora's three hits and scored the only run for the Redbirds in a 2-1 Mid-Illini loss to the Panthers. Gavin O'Laughlin pitched five innings, striking out seven.

Softball - Metamora 8, Huntley 6
Metamora pounded thirteen hits, and Nora Johnson improved to 7-0 on the mound in the Redbird win. Kennedy Nee (two doubles), Ellie Schaffer (three hits), and Kaidance Till (two hits, including a home run) paced the offense.

Softball - Marengo 2, Metamora 1
The Redbirds stranded eleven runners on base in a 2-1 loss to Marengo. Addy Wooden had two hits and Kaidance Till had four intentional walks for MTHS. Addi Pacha pitched a complete game, yielding only one earned run.

G Soccer - Metamora 5, Bloomington 0
The Redbirds celebrated an early senior night with a 5-0 win over Bloomington on Malone Field. Cali Elbert scored three goals, and Emmie Graf and Taylor Haun also scored for MTHS. Mia Hutchison had three assists on the night.

Cali Elbert scored off of an assist from Emmie Graf, but the Morton Potters were too dominant on a cold, wet night in Morton.

B Tennis - Francis Howell North (MO) 5, Metamora 4
In the semi-finals of the Edwardsville Invite, the Redbirds had two match points to win the dual match but did not ultimately seize on the opportunity. Adam Culp and Tommy Sopko posted singles wins, while the doubles duos of Hudson Shaw / Tommy Sopko and Weston Lange / Jack Hessing also picked up wins.

B Tennis - Metamora 2, Triad 2
In a shortened two singles, two doubles format, Metamora finished the Edwardsville Invite with a match on Triad's home courts. The Redbirds swept the doubles matches, with Tommy Sopko / Adam Culp and Weston Lange / Jack Hessing recording wins for MTHS.

Baseball - Goodpasture Christian (TN) 12, Metamora 2
MTHS ended its spring break trip to Tennessee with a loss to the Cougars of Goodpasture Christian. Avery Grebner had three hits to lead the Redbird offense, but the Metamora defense surrendered six unearned runs in the first two innings to put MTHS in an early hole.

Friday, March 29

B Tennis - Metamora 5, Mascoutah 4
The Redbirds opened the Edwardsville Invite with a tight victory over Mascoutah. Adam Culp, Tommy Sopko and Jack Hessing earned their first varsity singles wins, and Weston Lange won his singles match as well as teaming with Jack Hessing to clinch the match with a doubles win.

Baseball - Hendersonville (TN) 5, Metamora 4
Metamora took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning, but Hendersonville scored two in the 6th to tie the game and won it with a two-out run in the 7th. Tyler Mason drove in two runs for the Redbirds.

Baseball - Friendship Christian (TN) 12, Metamora 3
After the Redbirds took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th inning, Friendship Christian exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the 6th for the win.

Thursday, March 28

Softball - Metamora 7, Streator 4
Kaidance Till and Ellie Schaffer each collected three hits and knocked in two runs, while Nora Johnson went the distance on the mound, striking out nine. The Redbirds scored three in the bottom of the sixth inning to set the final score.

G Soccer - Richwoods 3, Metamora 0
The Knights came to Malone Field and shut out the Redbirds, 3-0. A tight 1-0 game at halftime, Richwoods scored two goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.

B Tennis - Morton 5, Metamora 4
It took eight tiebreaks and 4.5 hours between perennial powers Morton and Metamora to decide a winner. Weston Lange and Dane Hutchison each picked up singles and doubles wins on the night. Hudson Shaw and Jack Hessing earned doubles wins.

Baseball - Metamora 4, East Robertson (TN) 3
Metamora's spring break trip began with an exciting finish, as the Redbirds scored three runs in their final at-bat and held on for a 4-3 win. Pitching ruled the day, as the teams combined for only five hits (Metamora 3; East Robertson 2). Cooper Girdler picked up the win in relief for Metamora.

Wednesday, March 27

Softball - Gibson Southern (IN) 6, Metamora 5
The Redbirds concluded their spring break trip, suffering their first loss of 2024 when Gibson Southern scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win, 6-5. The game was shortened to six innings due to time constraints. Sophie Eaton led Metamora with three hits. Gibson Southern collected nine hits on the day and was aided by four Redbird errors. Metamora is now 6-1.

Tuesday, March 26

Softball - Metamora 5, Munster (IN) 3
The Redbird softball team scored two runs in the top of the 7th inning and held on for a 5-3 win over Munster, Indiana. Metamora survived three solo home runs by the Mustangs in the bottom of the 6th inning that tied the game at 3-3. Kaidance Till had four hits for MTHS, including three doubles and three runs batted in. Nora Johnson threw another complete game in the circle for the pitching win.

G Soccer - Washington 1, Metamora 0
Metamora's girls soccer team opened Mid-Illini play with a tight 1-0 loss at Washington. Despite controlling a big portion of the game, the Redbirds were unable to put the ball in the goal and fell to 2-4 on the young season.

Softball - Metamora 7, Mason (OH) 2
Metamora began its Tennessee spring break trip with a win over Mason, Ohio. Addison Pacha and Kaidance Till each had three hits, with Till and Kennedy Nee homering for the Redbirds. Nora Johnson scattered eleven hits and struck out seven in the complete game victory.

Saturday, March 23

B Tennis - Red & White Invite -- 1 Belleville East, 2 Quincy, 3 Glenwood, 4 Metamora, 5 Morton, 6 Notre Dame, 7 Richwoods, 8 Ottawa
In a doubles only format, Metamora battled Ottawa, Quincy, and Chatham-Glenwood at The Clubs at River City, winning all three matches against Ottawa and one of three against Quincy and Glenwood. Hudson Shaw and Dane Hutchison were each 3-0 on the day for the Redbirds.

B Track - Top Times Indoor State Meet
Metamora had three participants who qualified for the indoor state meet. Zach Born had the highest overall finish, placing 5th in the 800 meter run. Nick Walker was 11th in the high jump, and Gavin Johnsen took 15th place in the 60 meter hurdles. This meet completes the indoor portion of the season for the Redbirds.

G Track - Top Times Indoor State Meet
The Redbird ladies had one participant in the indoor state meet. Violet Weinman qualified in the pole vault and finished 9th overall. This finishes the indoor season for Metamora.

G Soccer - Mahomet-Seymour 2, Metamora 0
The Redbirds opened the home season on a wet, cold night against the Bulldogs of Mahomet-Seymour. Metamora was unable to find the back of the net and dropped a 2-0 match on the Malone Field turf.

Baseball - Normal U-High 6, Metamora 2
Gavin O'Laughlin and Jack Graf each reached base three times for Redbirds, but Metamora left twelve runners on base in the loss to the Pioneers.

G Soccer - Peoria Notre Dame 6, Metamora 0
After falling behind 5-0 in the first half, the Redbird soccer team played a spirited second half, losing to perennial power Notre Dame, 6-0.

Softball - Metamora 18, Eureka 2
Eleven Redbirds had at least one hit on the day as Metamora sounded defeated Eureka, 18-2. Nora Johnson had two doubles and Kaidance Till had a home run. The Redbirds scored 14 runs in the first inning and cruised to the win.

G Track - Clinton Last Chance Indoor Meet (no team scores)
On the final day of qualifying for Saturday's Top Times Indoor State Meet, 47 teams converged upon IWU's Shirk Center for the biggest indoor meet of the preseason. Medals were awarded for the top six places in each event. Metamora athletes earning medals were Naomi Roth (6th - high jump) and the 4 X 800 relay team of Mia Whitfield Ruthie Stamm, Isabel Olson, and Audrey Heil. Kenzie Ruder, Brylee Caho, Cameron Duhon, Ruthie Stamm, Morgan Hart, Lily Reid, and Ryan Schwarz all set personal records in their individual events.

Saturday, March 16

Softball - Metamora 14, Galesburg 0
In the first game of a doubleheader, the Redbirds pounded nine hits, drew six walks, and had zero strikeouts in defeating Galesburg, 14-0. Karagan Hartnett led the offensive onslaught with a home run and four runs batted in. Nora Johnson improved to 2-0 on the mound, throwing a one-hitter with fourteen strikeouts.

Softball - Metamora 16, Galesburg 1
In game two of the doubleheader, Addison Pacha picked up the pitching victory and also drove in four runs with two doubles for the Redbirds. Metamora only had five hits in the four-inning game but picked up twelve walks, as Redbird baserunners were everywhere. Also notable on the day was the fact that MTHS had zero errors in the doubleheader.

G Soccer - Metamora 7, Princeton 0
The girls soccer team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 7-0 road win at Princeton. Cali Elbert scored three goals to lead the Redbirds, while Taylor Haun (2), Emmie Graf (1), and Callie Sturgell (1) also scored for Metamora.

B Track - Sterling Newman Invite (no team scores)
Metamora competed in an 8-team invite at Westwood Fitness & Sports Center in Sterling, with four entries winning their events. Nick Walker (long jump), Zach Born (800 meter run), Gavin Johnsen (hurdles), and the 4 X 200 meter relay (Schmitz, Walker, Cote, Duhon) took home first place medals.

G Soccer - Metamora 4, Central Catholic 1
The Redbirds earned their first win of the season against the Saints. Hannah Miles opened the scoring in the first half, as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie. In the second half, Emmie Graf (2 goals) and Cali Elbert (1 goal) gave Metamora outstanding offensive production, leading to the victory. Taylor Haun (2 assists), Cali Elbert (1), and Emmie Graf (1) helped set up the scoring opportunities for MTHS.

Baseball - Normal Community 7, Metamora 1
Metamora continued its busy opening week with a contest in Normal. The Redbirds were held to four hits on the day, thanks to quality pitching from four different Ironmen. MTHS yielded six hits and six walks to NCHS, which broke open a scoreless game with a 4-run third inning.

B Track - Pontiac Indoor Invite (no team scores)
Metamora competed at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University with 27 other teams. The Redbirds earned the following top five finishes: Nick Walker (1st - long jump); Kendrick Schaffrin (2nd - triple jump); Walters, Palacios, Born, Eppenger (3rd - 4 X 800 relay); Nick Walker (4th - high jump); Gavin Johnsen (4th - 60 meter hurdles); Walker, Claudin, Born, Eppenger (4th - 4 X 400 relay); Gabe Schmitz (5th - 200 meter dash); Oliver Truelove (5th - 400 meter dash); Schmitz, Walker, Cote, Duhon (5th - 4 X 200 relay).

G Track - Normal West Wildcat Invite (no team scores)
Metamora participated in the 32-team Wildcat Invite and had three entries finish in the top five. Naomi Roth (3rd in the high jump), Violet Weinman (4th in the pole vault), and the 4 X 400 relay (5th place - Naomi Roth, Quincy Points, Audrey Heil, Mia Whitfield) brought home medals. New personal records were established by Mylee Edwards (60 meter dash), Ruthie Stamm (800 meter run), Rachel Messacar (shot put), and Ella Barr (triple jump).

Tuesday, March 12

Baseball - Metamora 7, Ottawa 6 (9 inn)
After falling behind 4-0 in the second inning, Metamora rallied in a road game at Ottawa. Tied at 6-6 after seven innings, the Redbirds scored a single run in the ninth and held on to win, 7-6. Gavin O'Laughlin, Cooper Girdler, and Keegan Renz combined for 16 strikeouts, with Renz pitching three shutout innings for the win. Tyler Mason, Stephen Petri, and AJ Stone each had two hits for the Redbirds, who improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Softball - Metamora 2, Pontiac 1
In an early season battle of state ranked teams, Metamora outlasted Pontiac, 2-1, to open the season with a victory. Nora Johnson went the distance on the mound, striking out eight and allowing five hits. Kaidance Till and Addison Pacha each doubled for the Redbirds, who managed only four hits off of Pontiac's ace pitcher, Elena Krause.

G Soccer - Normal Community 5, Metamora 0
In a windy season opener, the Redbirds played the first half with the stiff breeze in their faces and gave up five goals to the Ironmen. The second half was scoreless for both sides, as Normal completed their 5-0 win.

Monday, March 11

Baseball - Metamora 8, Pontiac 3
The 2024 baseball season began with a victory for the Redbirds. After trailing 3-0 early, Metamora scored eight unanswered runs to defeat the Indians. Drew Melody had three hits, while Tyler Mason had a double and a triple for MTHS. Ethan Krei picked up the win after hurling 3.1 innings.

Saturday, March 2

G Track - No team scores
The ladies competed at the 24-team Normal U-High Indoor Invite, with several Redbirds setting personal records. Kenzie Ruder (60 meter dash), Lydia Damery (60 meter hurdles), Naomi Roth (400 meter dash), and MC Murray (shot put) each performed at their all-time best.

B Track - No team scores.
The boys track team competed with 30 teams and also set several personal records. Evan Keil (60 meter dash), Wilbert Eppenger (800 meter run), Ben Roth (800 meter run), Jaeden Duhon (long jump), and the 4 X 400 meter relay team of Ryley Claudin, Gavin Johnsen, Wilbert Eppenger, and Ben Roth all had all-time best results.

Friday, March 1

B Basketball - Richwoods 61, Metamora 55
The Redbirds lost to Richwoods in the IHSA Sectional championship game at Pontiac High School, 61-55, ending its state title defense and also stopping a 10-game post-season winning streak. Cooper Koch (22 points), Tyler Mason (15), and Matthew Zobrist (11) led the way offensively. It brought to an end a season that finished with a third straight Mid-Illini title, a third straight IHSA Regional plaque, and the Jack Tosh 32-team Invite championship. Metamora finished the season 30-5, its third straight 30-win campaign, and has now won 94 games in the last three seasons.

MTHS had a limited crew at a pre-season indoor meet, with Gavin Johnsen setting a personal record, running 8.99 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to capture an individual title in the seven-team event.

The Redbirds were one of 31 teams to compete in a pre-season indoor meet last night. Metamora earned a top 10 medal in nine events, with Naomi Roth's 3rd place in the high jump being the top finish for MTHS. Ryan Schwarz was 5th in the long jump, and Mia Whitfield was 7th in the 800 meter run.

B Basketball - Metamora 69, LaSalle-Peru 37
Metamora blasted its way through the IHSA Sectional semifinal against LP, taking an early 18-2 lead on the way to a 45-14 halftime bulge. The Redbirds built the lead to as many as 40 in the third quarter and cruised to the victory. Cooper Koch (23 points), Matthew Zobrist (20), and Luke Hopp (12) did the bulk of the scoring for MTHS. Metamora improved to 30-4 on the season, its third consecutive year with 30 or more wins.

Friday, February 23

B Basketball - Metamora 69, Peoria 33
The Redbirds captured their third consecutive IHSA Regional title at Geneseo with a running clock win over the Lions. Cooper Koch (20 points), Tyler Mason (18), and Matthew Zobrist (15) led the way in a complete team effort. Metamora improved to 29-4 on the season and celebrated its first three-year regional championship streak in school history.

B Swimming - AJ Stone completed his high school swimming and diving career in the best place possible - the IHSA State meet in Westmont. AJ finished 40th in the diving competition. He has only been diving for a handful of months, and his sectional title and state appearance are quite remarkable!

The Redbird boys track team opened its season with a successful indoor meet at Olivet Nazarene University. Metamora brought home lots of top three medals, with Gavin Johnsen (60 meter hurdles) and Aaron Davis (pole vault) capturing championships.

The Redbirds began their state title defense with a first round victory at the IHSA Geneseo Regional. Cooper Koch (25 points), Matthew Zobrist (15), and Tyler Mason (11) led the scoring on the evening. Metamora built a 56-13 halftime lead and cruised to Friday night's regional final against Peoria High.

Senior AJ Stone scored a school record 413.3 in diving to win the sectional title and advance to next weekend's state meet. It was only his third 11-dive meet of his career! Ethan Stone and Drew Buss each missed the state meet by less than one half of a second. As a team, the Redbirds were 6th of 10.

G Track - The indoor season began with the 23-team Clinton Early Bird Meet. Earning top six medals for Metamora were Naomi Roth (6th - 400 meter dash and 5th - high jump), Violet Weinman (4th - Pole Vault), and the 4 X 400 relay (5th - Tatum Points, Mackenzie Doyle, Ruthie Stamm, and Audrey Heil). Eight Redbirds established new personal records on the day.

Friday, February 16

B Basketball - Metamora 81, Limestone 43
The Redbirds celebrated senior night with a 56-point first half offensive explosion on the way to a running clock win and a third straight Mid-Illini Conference championship. Tyler Mason led the way with 22 first half points. Luke Hopp (13), Cooper Koch (13), Nick Walker (12), Ashton Grieves (8), and Matthew Zobrist (8) contributed lots of highlights, as Metamora totaled seven dunks in the game. The Redbirds finish the regular season 27-4.

Wrestling - IHSA State Finals
At the second day of the wrestling individual state finals, Redbird freshman Grady Neal picked up a 6-4 victory over Kiaven Sullivan of Hillcrest to advance to the top 12 of the 144-pound weight class. His season ended in the next round with a loss to Pat Mullen of IC Catholic. Congrats to Grady on a great season!

G Basketball - Washington 67, Metamora 53
Metamora's girls basketball season came to a close in the IHSA Regional championship game in Pontiac. The Redbirds turned a 14-point first half deficit into a brief second half lead before the Panthers closed the game with a dominating fourth quarter. Senior Izzy VandeSchraaf was unstoppable for Metamora, finishing her basketball career with a 27-point outburst.

Wrestling - IHSA State Finals
Grady Neal opened his state tournament with a 10-2 setback to Nikolas Karamaniolas of Chicago St. Patrick in the Class 2A 144-pound weight class. He will begin his journey through the back draw of the double elimination tournament today against Kiaven Sullivan of Country Club Hills Hillcrest.

B Basketball - Metamora 69, Dunlap 50
The Redbirds began the final week of the regular season with a convincing win on Dunlap's senior night. Matthew Zobrist (17 points), Ashton Grieves (15), and Luke Hopp (13) led a balanced Metamora scoring attack. MTHS is now 26-4 on the season and 12-1 in the Mid-Illini Conference.

G Basketball - Metamora 67, Pontiac 44
Metamora began the IHSA postseason with a convincing win at the Pontiac Regional. Liv Vaughan and Izzy VandeSchraaf led the way with 13 points each, and four other Redbirds contributed at least seven points. The win puts Metamora in the championship game in Pontiac on Thursday at 7:00 pm against Washington.

Wrestling - IHSA Sectional - Day 2
Redbird freshman Grady Neal qualified for the state meet by finishing 4th in the 144-pound weight class. He will wrestle in Champaign at the State Farm Center next weekend. Ty Dykes and Adam Sloan both made it to day two of the sectional but fell short of qualifying for state.

Friday, February 9

B Basketball - Metamora 70, East Peoria 43
Metamora bolted to a 28-11 first quarter lead and cruised to a Mid-Illini win over the Raiders. Tyler Mason led the way with three first quarter dunks and 18 points, while Luke Hopp (12), Cooper Koch (12), and Matthew Zobrist (11) also reached double figures. The Redbirds were 14 out of 14 from the free throw line for the night.

Wrestling - IHSA Sectional - Day 1
Grady Neal led the Redbird wrestlers on day one of the IHSA Sectional, winning both matches to advance to the semi-finals. Ty Dykes and Adam Sloan both remained alive in the back draw, going 2-1 on the first day. Connor Graham finished 1-2 in the sectional, and Paytyn Dykes became the first Redbird girl to ever post a victory at the sectional level, finishing 1-2 on the day.

B Basketball - Metamora 36, Washington 26
The Redbirds improved to 24-4 on the season with a win in the Panther Den. Washington slowed the pace of the game to try to hang with Metamora, but Tyler Mason (16 points) and Cooper Koch (12) made sure that MTHS won its ninth straight conference game.

G Basketball - Dunlap 57, Metamora 36
Metamora traveled to Dunlap for the final regular season game of the year and could not keep pace with the Eagles. Liv Vaughan led the scoring the the Redbirds with 11. IHSA Regional play starts Monday for the ladies with a trip to Pontiac to play the hosts in the first round.

B Basketball - Metamora 47, Normal Community 38
At the Midwest Crossroads Shootout, two of the state's top teams clashed, with Metamora using a big third quarter to help defeat the Ironmen. Cooper Koch was named game MVP and led the Redbirds with 16 points. Tyler Mason (9) and Matthew Zobrist (8) were other big scoring contributors, and the entire Metamora squad played a tremendous defensive game.

Metamora hosted the IHSA Regional, with five Redbirds qualifying for next weekend's IHSA Sectional. Connor Graham, Grady Neal, and Adam Sloan each finished 2nd in their respective weight class, and Zach Bumeter and Ty Dykes finished 3rd. All five advanced to the sectional at Sycamore next Saturday.

Metamora had season or career bests in seven events at the Mid-Illini meet. The Redbirds had 2nd place finishes in diving (AJ Stone), the 100 butterfly (Ethan Stone), the 500 free (Ethan Grove), and the 100 back (Drew Buss).

The Redbirds celebrated senior night with a Mid-Illini win against East Peoria. Metamora used a 24-point outburst in the third quarter to turn a 7-point deficit into a comfortable lead. Liv Vaughan led MTHS with 20 points, and Izzy VandeSchraaf added 11.

Metamora survived an upset bid by a pesky Pekin team at Dawdy Hawkins Gym. After Metamora sprinted to a 20-8 first quarter lead, Pekin made a spirited comeback and led by as many as six in the third quarter before the Redbirds prevailed. Matthew Zobrist (14 points), Cooper Koch (11), and Luke Hopp (10) provided the scoring punch for MTHS. The Redbirds are now 22-4.

G Basketball - Limestone 57, Metamora 47
The Redbirds played a great first half on the road, leading by a point at the break. However, the Rockets surged in the second half to send Metamora to a Mid-Illini defeat. Izzy VandeSchraaf (17 points) and Liv Vaughan (13) led the Redbirds in scoring.

B Swimming - Normal U-High 110, Metamora 61
The swimmers ended their dual meet season with a trip to Normal to battle the Pioneers. Metamora had several event winners: 200 free (Ethan Grove), 50 free (Ethan Stone), 100 back (Drew Buss), and 100 breast (Adam Culp). In addition, AJ Stone won the diving competition, setting a school record with a score of 215.8 for his six dives.

At the Manual Shootout, the Redbirds built a 54-24 lead midway through the third quarter and coasted to a 78-56 win to improve to 21-4. Cooper Koch (23 points), Tyler Mason (17), Luke Hopp (14), and Matthew Zobrist (12) led the Metamora attack.

Wrestling - 24th of 30 in the IHSA Erie Girls Wrestling Regional
Paytyn Dykes (5th at 145) and Autumn Meeks (6th at 105) advanced to the sectional level by finishing in the top six at the Erie Regional. They will be the first two Redbirds females to ever wrestle at the sectional level!

G Basketball - Pekin 49, Metamora 40
The girls dropped a tough contest to Pekin in Toepke Gym. Metamora's record now stands at 10-17 on the season. Madi Kerns led the way for the Redbirds with 12 points on the strength of four three-pointers. Liv Vaughan added 9.

B Basketball - Metamora 69, Canton 16
After honoring Cooper Koch and Tyler Mason for scoring 1,000 points in high school, the Redbirds completely dismantled Canton in Toepke Gym. Koch led the way with 19 points. Mason, Luke Hopp, and Matthew Zobrist each added 11, and Sam Begole scored 9 second half points to excite the crowd. Metamora is now 20-4.

The Redbird wrestlers improved to 11-8 on the season with their fifth consecutive dual meet victory. The win over Kewanee was only the Boilermakers' third loss of the entire season.

The Redbirds traveled to Canton and upset the third place Little Giants on their home floor, 46-37. After losing tight games to Canton at home and in the Ottawa Invitational championship game, Metamora turned the tables, recording their second Mid-Illini Conference victory. Kessa Sell and Tabby VandeSchraaf led the scoring for the Redbirds with 11 points each.

B Basketball - Metamora 67, Morton 48
The Redbirds avenged an early season loss to the Potters with a 67-48 thumping in Toepke Gym. A 27-point fourth quarter allowed Metamora to extend a four-point lead and seal the win. Tyler Mason (23 points), Cooper Koch (21), and Luke Hopp (12) led the scoring for MTHS, and late-game dunks by Ashton Grieves and Tyler Mason nearly blew the roof off of the building.

B Swimming - Metamora 83, Olympia 27
There were lots of event winners for the Redbirds in a dual victory over Olympia. Metamora won the 200 free (Tyler Minder), the 200 IM (Adam Culp), the 50 free (Ethan Stone), the 100 fly (Ethan Stone), the 100 free (Drew Buss), the 500 free (Ethan Grove), the 100 back (Drew Buss), the 100 breast (Adam Culp), the 200 medley (Drew Buss, Adam Culp, AJ Stone, Ethan Stone), and the 400 free relay (AJ Stone, Ethan Stone, Drew Buss, Adam Culp).

The Redbird Roundball Classic concluded with yet another Metamora win over a Class 4A school from the Chicago suburbs. The Redbirds exploded for a 25-point third quarter and finished the game with 15 three-pointers. Cooper Koch (21), Matthew Zobrist (19), Tyler Mason (14), and Luke Hopp (12) led the way for MTHS.

The highly regarded Mt. Zion Braves brought their 18-0 record to Toepke Gym, and the two teams played a terrific basketball game. Cooper Koch led the way with 24 points, and Matthew Zobrist (18), Tyler Mason (16), and Ashton Grieves (10) joined him in double figures. Metamora improved to 17-4 on the season.

Playing for the third time in four days, Metamora was led by Cooper Koch (27), Tyler Mason (16), Luke Hopp (12), and Matthew Zobrist (12). The Redbirds improved to 16-4 overall.

The girls continued their much improved play, stepping outside of the conference for a big win over Rochester. Liv Vaughan (23) and Emma Hernandez (14) led the Redbirds, as each of them connected on four three-pointers during the game.

In the championship game of the 32-team Jack Tosh Holiday Invite, Metamora used a three-point basket by Cooper Koch with 5 seconds left in overtime to defeat Bolingbrook in an instant classic. Tyler Mason (23 points - tournament MVP) joined Koch (19 points) and Luke Hopp (10 points) on the All-Tournament team. Matthew Zobrist chipped in a huge 13 points in the title game as well. Metamora, the only team from outside of Chicagoland in the event, is now 12-3 on the season.

The ladies dropped a tight home contest to Pekin to fall to 6-12 on the season. Metamora is 0-4 in the Mid-Illini Conference but has still won four of its last six games.
